Announcing Our New Farm
We did it — we have a new farm!
It’s gorgeous and full of promise. The Carolina Flowers team and I are the proud stewards of 30 acres in Henderson County. We’ll be growing flowers in the heart of apple country, a renowned agricultural district in this mountain region.
With this expansion, we are committed to growing local flowers year round. We’ll be growing more of the blooms you love — ranunculus, dahlias, poppies. We’ll have local flowers for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine’s Day if all goes well. We’ll also be growing so much more supporting material — foliage, filler flowers, little floaty bits. We’ll have room to experiment and learn, both formally and informally. We hope to be able to contribute valuable knowledge to the industry by using our space for trials and formal studies.
At this moment, we have the best team we have ever had, and I am thrilled to give them the opportunity to grow their skills. Our three full-time farmers are seasoned pros with incredible work ethic, curiosity and knowledge of their craft. Our floral team is organized and ready to process and design new material — to get more flowers into the hands of more people.
Perhaps you are wondering: What’s in it for you?
Eventually, we’ll have amazing workshops for you to enjoy, farm tours, and more.
The new property will house our main production studio where we organize flowers and create event orders. It will not have a retail component. (No walk ins.) But we will be able to take appointments.
It’s going to take time to move, however.
We’ll be farming our current property in Marshall until mid November. We have begun preparing the land at the new farm in Henderson County, a process that will ramp up over the weeks ahead. Our first plants will go into the ground at the new farm in September.
Yes, for those of you reading closely, that means we’ll be managing two active farm properties in September, October and November. It’s going to be intense, but we’ve also had some time to prepare.
Our floral team will move first. We’re still working on the timeline, but by mid-summer — if not sooner — the bulk of our production will happen at the new farm, even though we’ll have to transport flowers from the old farm. Complicated. Tell me about it.
The store at Haywood Road is permanent and will remain! This is where we’ll have our stem bar, pick up orders, etc. Moving the bulk of production to the new farm frees up space for retail amazingness in West Asheville.
When can you come see it?
Short answer: We’ll host our first guests this fall!
Right now, the plan is to launch tickets for our wreath workshops in early September. These will take place at the new studio in Henderson County.
In Spring 2026, we’ll have a many, many workshops. We’ll also have some kind of ticketed event to celebrate.
How am I feeling? Why, thank you for asking!
This expansion is a huge step for Carolina Flowers — make or break. We’re reaching out and dreaming big, pushing outside of our comfort zones.
When I started the search for a larger property for our flower farm in December 2022, I had no idea what was coming. I didn’t know the search would take two years and three months. I didn’t know a hurricane would interpose. I didn’t know how difficult it would be.
It’s been almost a year since I found the property that will be our new farm. The negotiating process in itself has been long and intense. I almost walked away twice. I remember saying a few weeks before Hurricane Helene hit that “This year has been the hardest one yet, and I am really tired!” I won’t make the mistake of saying that again! It got harder.
So, my mood is mixed. I keep reminding myself to be excited. This is exciting! But it’s also daunting. We could spend $1 million getting set up here. Needless to say, we do not have that. Post-hurricane, we are lucky to have enough cash to continue operating. Expansion? Crazy talk!
Crazy-ish. There are ways.
Am I smart enough to pull this off? Probably not entirely. Am I lucky enough to pull this off? Possibly. Do I have the energy? Nope, I am worn out from hurricane recovery, but I guess I better find the energy. Do I have the support to pull this off? I hope so — support will make this possible.
Taking a step back and looking at the broader economy, yesterday’s tariffs, this is a time of massive uncertainty. It’s very nerve wracking to expand at a moment like this, and the economy will play a role in determining what’s possible for us.
I try to take solace in the flowers. They are still inspiring after almost 9 years in the business!
I’m so excited for you and your team! I can’t wait to see you make this happen for yourself!
