Styling Flowers, Styling Tomatoes

Every now and then, we take some time to play!

This past weekend, we had a vendor showcase at The Farm, a venue in Candler, just outside of Asheville, NC, where we love to work as a wedding florist. We put together this amazing tablescape, inspired by summery tomatoes — plus plums, peppers and melons.

We welcomed the chance to work in some red flowers (generally an unpopular color) with oranges, yellows, browns and blacks. I love how this palette is bright, but it doesn’t read bright and excessively cheerful. It reads rich and opulent.

Our amazing florists, Sophia and Alli, created these arrangements. I was the fruit stylist, a job I performed oh so happily!

This summer, for the first time in many years, I’m growing tomatoes, and I am SO HAPPY. It’s nice to grow just for the pleasure of growing. Of course, I’m not a great vegetable farmer. I enjoy the ornamental qualities of my tomato plants and leave their leaves on (because mostly naked tomato plants are kind of scruffy looking, even if they do lead to higher yields).

I love watching the fruit ripen each day and learning the differences between the slicers, San Marzanos and cherries.

However, I didn’t grow any of the tomatoes in this photo! I thought about bringing my own — and I even considered lobbing off a few beautiful leaders to tuck into arrangements. But in the end, I didn’t! I have to save something for myself!

Hanna, who joined our team this year and assists at events while working on a secret mission, was kind enough to prune some of her tomato plants for these arrangements, and she brought us the peppers and single marigolds!

Below is a photo of the final table, all set at The Farm!

Hope you’re having a floriferous week! And if you’re not, we can help with that.
