The Story of Our Logo

People often ask me: What’s with the logo? Like, what is it? So, here’s the full story.
The logo features a woman with big pink hair riding a blue bobcat through a field of flowers. The symbolism is meant to reflect a harmony between the farmer and nature.
I always knew I wanted an animal in our logo, and bobcats are particularly special to me. Once in the early days of the farm, I was harvesting galax at my neighbors. Galax is a lush green leaf known throughout the mountains, and the patch was thick. Suddenly, I heard a rustle. I had come upon a sleeping bobcat, bedded down in the galax patch. It got up and slinked off, but it was wonderful to be so close to such an amazing creature! It deserved to be part of the company.
I didn’t design the logo myself, but I’ve work with a few different graphic designers over the years to create and update it. The first time I sat down with a graphic designer, I presented her with a pile of famous artworks. “Make something like this,” I said, pointing to a Picasso. I’m sure I was a nightmare!
One of my favorite references was this painting below.

Funny story for art nerds: I always thought this was self-portrait by the fauvist painter Henri Rousseau, who painted in the early 20th century. I just discovered this very morning it’s not! It’s by British painter Frances Broomfield. Painted in 1997, it’s called “Henri Rousseau’s Dream” — so, an interpretation, much like the logo.
I like our logo! If you are an expert on branding, then you probably know our logo is “too busy” and probably a little bit too fun for the luxury market.
The woman on the bobcat is not me — I do not have pink hair. I sometimes call her Carolina. (People often ask for Carolina or address emails to Carolina. In fact, Carolina is not a person. It is the state where we live.) The bobcat is named Rufus after his latin name Lynx rufus.
The logo was designed with merch in mind. Who doesn't need a flower shirt? I wanted something that looked great on shirts and stickers! I love it when my friends and family tell me they run into someone wearing a Carolina Flowers shirt. That never happens to me, but if it does, I’ll be sure to flag you down! Also, here’s a funny story, a woman came into the shop after she bought our shirt at the thrift store! So you never know what magic the logo will work!
Would you like to share our logo with the world? Be sure to grab one of our t-shirts, sweatshirts or longsleeves! Or come into the shop for a free sticker with purchase!
