Carolina Flowers is Asheville’s flagship flower company, providing flowers from our fields to customers all over the metropolitan area through our delivery business. We also offer floral design services for weddings and events and sell our blooms at farmers markets.

The Weekend Farm Sitter will be responsible for checking on the farm on Saturdays and Sundays. Main tasks include venting high tunnels, running irrigation, walking the farm and scouting for problems, getting gas for water pumps, general farm errands and communication with management.

Farm experience is not required, but comfort with manual work in the outdoors is important. You should be OK with getting dirty, encountering insects, identifying and avoiding hazards, working in varying weather conditions including heat, wind and rain.

This position could be great for someone who has a weekday job and wants to spend more time in the outdoors. It could be great for a parent who wants to venture out. It could be good for a retiree with physical stamina. We’re excited to meet you!

Job Description

The Weekend Farm Sitter should be a reliable, adaptable and communicative lover of the outdoors and farming. By tending to weekend farm tasks, you will allow our farm team to rest and recharge for the week.

The Weekend Farm Sitter will be responsible for checking on the farm on Saturdays and Sundays. Main tasks include venting high tunnels, running irrigation, walking the farm and scouting for problems, getting gas for water pumps, general farm errands and communication with management.

We’re looking for a reliable morning person with a somewhat flexible schedule. You will be working independently. Main communication will be via phone, text and email. We hope to find someone who can visit the farm most Saturday and Sunday mornings around 8-9 a.m. to open tunnels and turn on irrigation. Some days, you might need to return around 4 p.m. to close tunnels, but that should be relatively limited to March, April, October and November.

The schedule is flexible as long as the right tasks are accomplished at the right time.

This is not a farming position. We do not need you to do any farm tasks or operating equipment. There’s no weeding, no harvesting, no planting. Just supervision of the farm. We can train you to do the things we’re asking for.
